Day 1: Begin of Tour Nabire (Irian Jaya/West Papua) - Nabire
We will pick you up from the airport in Nabire. After check in to your hotel, you will be introduced to the small and friendly town of Nabire. During this city tour you will visit a traditional market where Papuan women sell homegrown produce, and beautiful traditional hand made noken bags. These knotted or woven bags are part of the UNESCO intangible heritage. They are made from natural dyed materials. You will visit "tembok MAF" which is a popular hang out place for locals, especially during sunset. You can try some local dishes and fruits (optional). Overnight in Nabire.
Day 2: Nabire - Sowa (B/L/D)
An early departure to Sowa. It is around 3 hours drive from which the last part goes over a bumpy road. You will have a short break before you continue by local boat in search of the whale sharks. The whale sharks feed at the bagan which are traditional fishing platforms. Be silent and careful in your first approach, else you might scare the whale shark away. Sometimes up to 4 whale shark can be seen at one time. A late fish - barbecue will be served on a beautiful small island where you can swim and enjoy the last hours of daytime. You will stay the night in the house of a friendly Papuan family. The facilities are very basic, with mattresses on the floor.
Day 3: Sowa - Nabire (B/L)
In the morning, you will have a second trip to the whale sharks. Lunch will be served at the family. After lunch, you will drive back to Nabire.
Day 4: Nabire - End of Tour Nabire (Irian Jaya/West Papua) (B)
Breakfast at the lodging, and transfer back to the airport.

Important information for traveler: Outside of highly touristic regions like Bali there is only a limited touristic infrastructure available. Regular flight connections, restaurants and hotels (all classes from simple to high end) are limited. Flight cancellations and delays are quite common. Please don't expect amenities like warm water, air-conditioning and even comfortable beds at all hotels and homestays during the round trip. This applies especially outside of bigger cities.
