It it just a short drive from Jayapura Aiport to Nimbokrang, a small Transmigrasi settlement. The surrounding swamps and lowland forests are home to a vast number of endemic birds. The trails to the different briding sites around Nimbokrang are easy to travel, if you don't mind the heat and the mosquitos. It is possible to see lesser bird-of-paradise, the king bird-of-paradise, the 12 Wired bird-of-paradise and many other local bird species (see full list in the description).

Lake Habbema is situated approximately 30km from the Baliem Valley Resort. The Trekking tour starts with a 3 hrs trip by car until you reach the lake. The camp will be set up near the shore where you can enjoy the view of the lake and Mount Trikora. Lake Habbema is located in the middle of a large upland moor, surrounded by magical meadows full of dwarf cypresses, little tree ferns, rhododendron and many different types of orchid. The trip back to the resort will take 2.5 days.

You will stay at the Baliem Valley Resort, a small resort with 15 traditional Honay bungalows. The days in the valley will be filled with exciting trekking tours, visits to tribe settlements and remote forests. Take part in one of the famous pig festivals and do a rafting tour on Baliem river.

Journey to the Korowai and Asmat

Classic expedition to the Korowai tree house nomads.The Korowai live far away from civilization. During our tour we will cross the Korowai sector from Mabul in the West to Yanirumah in the East. We will spend many days in the forest visit several Korowai settlements in the Avium sector. As we plan a daily trekking of minimum 5 hours, a certain fitness is necessary to participate in this tour. Later, in Wamena, we will spend some interesting days in the area of the Dani tribe, in the highlands of Papua.
