Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Begin of Tour Jakarta (Java) - Bogor - Bandung (L)

Lotus © Rima SuharkatLotusAfter pick-up by your personal guide at the airport in Jakarta drive directly to the cool mountain region of Bogor. Visit the famous Botanical Garden in Bogor. Continue through beautiful tea plantations and hilly scenery until you reach Puncak Pass. After lunch, drive to Bandung. Later Check-in in at your hotel in Bandung.

Day 2: Bandung (B/L)

Visit to the caldera of Tangkuban Prahu with a unique view inside the crater and the scenery around. On the way back stop at the hot spring in Ciater, where you can relax in warm sulphurous water. Return to your hotel.

Day 3: Bandung - Kutoarjo - Wonosobo (B/L)

Train Station, Java © Rima SuharkatTrain Station, JavaAfter breakfast check-out from the hotel and transfer to the train station. Enjoy the train ride from Bandung to Kutoarjo. After arrival in Kutoarjo proceed by car to Wonosobo, on the slopes of Dieng Plateau. Overnight in Wonosobo.

Day 4: Wonosobo - Dieng Plateau - Yogyakarta (B/L)

Stop on the way for a stunning view of terraces carved into the steep slopes to make use of the volcanic soil. The Dieng Plateau is known for its mystic atmosphere caused by the mostly active volcanoes in the region. The temples at the Dieng Plateau have been built in the 7th century by the Sanjaya Dynasty in a giant swampy caldera, between steep rocks, cold mineral lakes and fuming volcanoes. “Dieng” is often translated as “the residence of heaven”. It is presumed, that Dieng Plateau was a prospering temple center in the mountains, populated by Hindu priests and hermits. to Yogyakarta and visit the famous Borobudur Temple on the way. The large Buddhist sanctuary was build in the 1st century. Approximately 30.000 stone carvers and 15.000 porters contributed to the construction. Visitors come from all over the world to see the beautiful pyramid. On the way to Yogyakarta short stop at Candi Mendut and Candi Pawon and then check-in at your hotel in Yogyakarta.

Day 5: Yogyakarta (B/L)

Yogyakarta is the most important city in Central Java and well known as an industrial, educational and cultural center. The complex Javanese culture is kept alive by dancing schools, theaters and handicraft businesses. Today you will visit the sultan’s palace Keraton, the ruins of the water palace Taman Sari, the Old City, bird market Pasar Ngasem and some batik workshops and silver manufactures as well. The traditional batik technique of Yogyakarta is famous in South-East Asia. Next visit to Prambanan Temple. This huge temple complex is dedicated to Hindu gods Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu. The first relief begins on the most eastern entry and shows the epic story of Ramayana. Afterwards return to your hotel and evening for free for own activities. We recommend to take a walk in the famous Malioboro Street or to visit a traditional performance of a Ramayana Ballet.

Day 6: Yogyakarta - Jombang - Bromo (B/L)

The train ride from Yogyakarta to Jombang will take approximately 4 hours. Observe the always changing landscape along the railway. Arrival in Jimbang around midday. Then proceed to the mountain region of Bromo Volcano (approx. 2 ½ hours) by car. Check-in at your hotel in the afternoon. Turn in early, because the trip to the crater rim to see the sunrise at Bromo will start very early.

Day 7: Bromo - Ijen (B/L)

At approx. 03:00 am you will depart from the hotel taking a 4x4 vehicle to the caldera of Tengger crater. If the weather permits you will see the beautiful sunrise and will have the chance to take spectacular photos. Later return to the large caldera and drive to the well known Bromo volcano. Switch from the car to one of the local ponies for the last stretch before you reach the stairway to heaven. 245 steps lead right up to the crater rim. From there you can see the fuming mouth of Bromo volcano. Return to the hotel for breakfast and check-out. Then contunue the drive to Kawah Ijen. Arrival at the hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 8: Ijen - Ketapang - End of Tour Denpasar (Bali) (B/L)

Worker at Kawah Ijen, East JavaWorker at Kawah Ijen, East JavaEarly morning breakfast and departure to Kawah Ijen via the village of Licin and the surrounding plantations and the forest at the foot of the volcano. Start the trek uphill at Paltuding rest area (+/- 1,850m). It will take approximately 90 minutes to reach the crater rim. The steep trail is shadowed by big trees and tropical vegetation. After one kilometer you will reach the weighing station a good place for a short rest. The higher the altitude the more the landscape will change. Near the crater rim (+/- 2,833m) all vegetation will have vanished. Between the clouds you can see the blue crater lake and the sulphuric rocks. Their yellow color stands out like a beacon. The workers carry up to 80kg of sulphur in their baskets on the way downhill. The way down may take a bit longer because you have to be very careful every step of the way. Return to the hotel and check-out. Afterwards drive to Ketpang harbor and take the ferry to Bali. Transfer from Gilimanuk to your hotel on Bali.
