Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Begin of Tour Kuching (Sarawak) - Nanga Sumpa (L/D)

08:00 hours pick up from hotel in Kuching and drive to Batang Ai reservoir. Along the way stop at Lachau Bazaar. Stroll around the shops and the small native market and have an early lunch in a local coffee shop. Then continue your journey, arriving at Batang Ai Lake around 13:30-14:00 hours. Board a longboat and travel upriver to Nanga Sumpa, arriving at approx. 15:30 hours, although the exact time will depend on river conditions. Settle in at Borneo Adventure’s lodge and have dinner. Evening free at leisure. Overnight at Nanga Sumpa lodge.

Day 2: Nanga Sumpa - Genting Tunu (B/L/D)

After breakfast, depart Nanga Sumpa and trek for about 4 hours through orangutan habitat to Genting Tunu jungle camp. This camp is located at an elevation of 400 metres. Spend time looking for wild orangutans and other wildlife like the pig-tailed macaques, giant squirrels and a variety of birds. While the orangutans are only occasionally seen, their nests can usually be observed. Upon arrival, set camp and have lunch. Approx. 1530 hours go for walk near the camp to search for orangutans and their nests. Return to camp and prepare for an evening meal. Overnight at Genting Tunu jungle camp.

Day 3: Genting Tunu - Sungai Mawang (B/L/D)

After breakfast, leave Genting Tunu and begin the 5 hours trek to Mawang, searching for orangutans, orangutan nests and other wildlife along the way. Arrive at Mawang and set up camp. The camp is located at an elevation of 195 metres. Lunch in the camp. Relax or if you wish help the guides gather jungle produce like bamboo shoots or edible ferns for your dinner. Late afternoon take a walk in the vicinity of the camp to search for orangutans. Return to camp before dusk. Dinner and overnight at Mawang jungle camp.

Day 4: Sungai Mawang - Nanga Sumpa (B/L/D)

Trek from Sungai Mawang to Nanga Sumpa (about 2-3 hours). Search for wild orangutans and other wildlife before arriving at Nanga Sumpa on the Delok River. Settle in at Borneo Adventure’s lodge and have lunch. Afternoon go on a circular trek in the Nanga Sumpa area through primary and secondary forest that is known orangutan habitat. Overnight at Nanga Sumpa Lodge.

Day 5: Nanga Sumpa - End of Tour Kuching (Sarawak) (B/L)

Breakfast in the lodge. Then free at leisure to relax, swim in the river or take some photos around Nanga Sumpa. At 1115 hours have an early lunch in the lodge. Depart around 12:00 hours and travel downriver to the Batang Ai Lake jetty, arriving approx. 13:30 hours. Then travel overland back to Kuching. Arrive in Kuching approx. 18:30 hours and be dropped off at your hotel.
