Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Begin of Tour Balikpapan (Kalimantan) - Loa Janan - Muara Muntai (L/D)

After your arrival at the airport of Balikpapan you’ll be met by your guide and drive to Loa Janan about two hours by car. Here we will board the houseboat and start cruising Mahakam river to Dayak Land. Overnight and meals on the boat.

Day 2: Muara Muntai - Muara Pahu (B/L/D)

Morning arrive at Muara Muntai village, join village excursion through the long wooden bridge, then onward by motorized canoe to Tanjung Isuy crossing, Jempang Lake and through Ohong River to reach a big longhouse at Mancong, known as Lamin Mancong, you will see all kinds of birds and monkeys on Ohong River. In the afternoon, proceed to Tanjung Isuy Village, the Dayak land of Benuaq. You will be welcomed by a Dayak dance performance. Afternoon return to houseboat, overnight and meals on board.

Day 3: Muara Pahu - Tenggarong (B/L/D)

Arrive at Muara Pahu, cruise upstream the Kedang Pahu River by canoe for more than one hour by canoe to Mount Bayan to visit Terbisak Dayak village known of its Longhouse of the Benauq Dayak tribe which is still habituated by about 100 Dayak people living in their community house, and traditions of dry rice cultivation and hunting. Continue downstream by canoe, along the river bank, we will enjoy the exotic nature, and wildlife as otters, leaf monkeys, endangered proboscis monkeys and birds, before we move to the delta of the Belowan river, a black water peat swamp forest land, with opportunities to spot the fresh water dolphins in the colliding stream of the Kedang Pahu and the Bolowan River. Afternoon, return to houseboat for downstream cruising to Tenggarong.

Day 4: Tenggarong - Balikpapan (B/L/D)

Morning arrive at Tenggarong where you will have a city tour and visit Mulawarman Museum, where the former Kutai Kingdom heritage is displayed. Lunch on board while cruising down to Loa Janan; from there onward by car to Balikpapan, accommodation at Hotel. Dinner at local restaurant.

Day 5: Balikpapan - End of Tour Balikpapan (Kalimantan) (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. The morning is free at leisure until the time for transfer to the airport or your next destination.

Regular flight connections, restaurants and hotels (all classes from simple to high end) are limited. Flight cancellations and delays are quite common. Please don't expect amenities like warm water, air-conditioning and even comfortable beds at all hotels and homestays during the round trip. This applies especially outside of bigger cities.
