Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Begin of Tour Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) - Kota Kinabalu (D)

Pick up in the late afternoon for a sightseeing tour including Signal Hill overlooking the city center and the offshore islands. Visit the night market to bargain for the wide array of local spices, souvenirs, fruits and vegetables. Proceed to a local restaurant for a dinner befor returning to the hotel. Overnight in Kota Kinabalu.

Day 2: Kota Kinabalu - Kinabalu Nationalpark (B/L/D)

It will take approximately 2 hours to cross the Crocker Range with green paddiefields nd Dusun villages. The hot springs in Poring were discovered by Japanesesoldiers during WWII. You can explore the jungle following a conpy walk between the treetops in a hight of 41m. Lunch at park cafeteria. The Kinabalu National Park was established in 1964 and part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 2000. The park on the foothills of Mount Kinabalu comprises several vegetation zones. Dinner and overnight at the national park.

Day 3: Kinabalu Nationalpark - Sepilok (B/L)

Sepilok Nature ResortSepilok Nature ResortBreakfast at the cafeteria. Visit the Mountain Gardens in the morning after registration at the Park HQ. There is an education Centre and the botanical garden including orchids, flowering rhododendrons, ferns and pitcher plants. Walk through the rainforest and learn more about the different plants. After lunch drive to Sepilok orang-utans rehabilitation centre near Sandakan. The drive will take 4-5 hours. The Sepilok Nature Resort is just next to the famous Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. It is one of the biggest rehabilitation centres for orang-utans and other forest animals. Afternoon at your leisure. Nightwalk or other resort activities optional. Dinner and overnight at the resort.

Day 4: Sepilok - Selingan (B/L/D)

Pulau Selingan Turtle IslandPulau Selingan Turtle IslandBreakfast at the resort. Drive to the jetty in Sandakan in the morning. The boat ride to Selingan island will take approximtely 1h 15min. The island is part of the Turtle Island National Park which was founded in 1977. The park also comprises the islands of Pulau Bakkungan Kecil, Pulau Gulisan and some of the smaller surrounding islands. Upon arrival at Pulau Selingan check-in and lunch at the cafeteria. The afternoon is free at your own leisure. After dinner go for a walk at the beach with a local ranger. During turtle season you may see female turtles burying their eggs in an underground nest at the beach. Overnight at Chalet on Selingan island.

Day 5: Selingan - Sukau (B/L/D)

Pygmy Elephant © Sabah TourismPygmy ElephantLeave the island for Sandakan in the morning at 06:30 AM. After breakfast at a local restaurant return to Sepilok for a visit at the feeding platform. The Sepilok Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Centre was established in 1964 at Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. The facility provides medical care for orphaned and confiscated orangutans as well as dozens of other wildlife species. Today 60 - 80 orangutans live on the premises. In 2014 an orangutan nursery was added to the centre. You will start the visit at Sepilok with a walk along the plankway to reach the feeding platform. Daily feeding starts at 10:00 AM. Take your time and watch the orangutans interact. Afterwards drive to the neighbouring Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, which aims to raise public awareness about the plight of the Malayan sun bear (Helarctos malayanus) and to raise conservation awareness about this species. You can watch the sun bears in their outdoor habitat from an observation platform. Drive to the jetty in Sandakan and boat ride to Kinabatangan river. Cross the waters of the Sulu Sea and passby the mangrove foret at the Lower Kinabatangan. Lunch at Abai Village. Continue the boat ride to Sukau. Check-in at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. Late in the afternoon you will go on a cruise along Menanggul River. Explore animal live at the river banks until night falls. Dinner and overnight at Lodge.

Day 6: Sukau (B/L/D)

Return to the lodge for breakfast. After lunch go for another boat ride and have a chance to see pygmy elephants. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 7: Sukau - Sepilok (B/L/D)

Return to Sandakan after breakfast. Watch out for local wildlife during the 2.5hrs long boat ride. A short drive takes you from the jetty to the central market. Later Transfer back to Sepilok. The afternoon ist free at your leisure. Overnight at Sepilok.

Day 8: Sepilok - End of Tour Sandakan (Sabah) (B)

Early morning Transfer zu Sandakan Airport.
